You are here: About Boppard / Urban Districts

Holzfeld is the most southernly urban village of Boppard. This village lies on the sunny hills above the Rhine, between abundant woodland and well-tended walking paths. Holzfeld lies on the Rheingoldstraße route, and this, together with the fact that it also has easy access to the A61 motorway, makes it a popular destination for excursions and for walks. Holzfeld offers both Rhine Romantic and the wonderful landscape of the Hunsrück. On a hill in the north-western part of the village centre you will find the protestant church with its mediaeval tower. The church was formerly surrounded by a high wall and was also a fortress for the village. It is one of the very few remaining fortified churches in the area. In the interior of the church there is a hexagonal early Gothic batismal font made of basalt lava. Holzfeld was also rated in the competion “Make Our Village More Beautiful” and won first prize in the competition “Environmental Achievement within the Community”
